Over the last two years, Be International, Shokkin Group Estonia, Ticket2Europe and Puzzle OptimEast have been working on a joint project focused on spreading good practices in game-based learning to other educators, youth workers and teachers.
With 3 international trainings, 3 handbooks, 15 educational games, countless local workshops and over 600 people involved, we can proudly say that the project has reached its last stage.
What did we create?
Since 2016 we have been working intensely with the use of games and game mechanics in the learning process. We participated in and co-organised several trainings focused on development of educational games, where participants had the chance to explore game-based learning, develop and test their own educational games.
- Out of these, we decided to pick 15 which we found the most successful prototypes to test and rework them, teach educators how to work with them and release them in ready to play versions for anyone to use.
- Throughout the project we published 3 handbooks focusing on the development and facilitation process of such games – role plays and simulations, escape games and board games.
- We included over 50 educators from 4 different countries in our training courses which took place in Czechia, Estonia and Spain.
- The participants and others who discovered the project then used the games during more than 30 public events, workshops and trainings with over 600 other young people and educators involved.
- And last but not least, we launched playversity.co, an online hub and resource centre for playful educators, where all of the games and manuals are freely available.

What do the participants have to say about game based learning?
What’s next?
We could see the impact the trainings had on the participants and looking at the final numbers of people we have reached, we got extremely excited.
In the future, we are thinking about providing translations of the games into more languages to make them more accessible and maybe choosing more games which have not made it into these handbooks.
And of course, we want to spread game-based learning approaches to education among other networks of educators! Are you one? Then take a look at the manuals, let us know if you use any of the activities and keep a look on future learning opportunities!
The manuals:
Handbook: Live action games
Handbook: Escape games
Handbook: Board games
The project “Gamifying Education” was supported by the Czech National Agency through the Erasmus+ programme.
